Waking up

How long have I been asleep?

I last remember counting sheep.

And it was dark and cold outside

when first I stumbled in to hide.

How long have I been away?

It smells like there’s been rain today.

The birds are singing in the trees

and there’s a sweetness on the breeze.

Tell me, how much time has past

since I walked through the flowers last?

And heard the bees buzz to and fro?

I stretch and yawn! It’s time to go!

Slowly I stand up and blink

and walk outside to sit and think.

And as I step into the light,

I’m greeted by a springtime sight.

All these lovely things await

and goodness me, I’m running late.

I am a bear, what can I say?

I’ve slept the winter months away.
